Hard to tell the size of this meteorite but you can put your arms around it. It is a fragment of the meteor that exploded on impact creating an enormous crater near Winslow, AZ.
50,000 years ago the Barringer crater was formed when a meteor moving at about 26,000 miles per hour, 150 feet across, weighing several hundred thousand tons, hurtled into our atmosphere and struck the earth with the power of 20 million tons of dynamite.
I did find one friend that survived the explosive impact.
The geology in this area is spectacular. We traveled little stretches of Route 66 when it worked for us.
